First Annual Richard WOOD: Celtic Rhythms in Motion ~A Celebration of Island Fiddle & Dance~
Internationally acclaimed fiddler Richard WOOD will headline the launch of a brand-new cultural tradition on Prince Edward Island with the first annual Richard WOOD: Celtic Rhythms in Motion ~A Celebration of Island Fiddle & Dance~
Taking place Saturday, November 8th at 4:30pm (doors at 4pm) at the New London Community Complex, this high-energy performance will bring together six different Island step-dance ensembles and soloists alongside Richard’s fiery Celtic fiddle and incomparable bandmates, Brent Chaisson (guitar) and Kimberley Holmes (keyboard). The event marks the beginning of what is planned to be an annual fall cultural series, designed to extend PEI’s tourism season and showcase the Island’s rich Celtic Music and Step-dance heritage.
Step-dancing has deep roots on Prince Edward Island, and for Richard WOOD, it is also personal. Richard’s career began as a young step-dancer performing to live fiddlers. This performance reintroduces dancers to the vitality and spontaneity of live music, reviving a centuries-old tradition where the syncopation between fiddler and dancer creates an unmatchable energy and connection.
“This show is about celebrating our culture in its purest form: live fiddle and live dance together”, says Wood. “It’s how I started, and it’s how I want to inspire the next generation to carry it forward”.
Audiences can expect a vibrant showcase of both emerging and seasoned Island dancers, united on stage with Richard in a one-of-a-kind celebration.
